GIS Advisory Board
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a rapidly growing sector of information technology. As data transparency, innovative technologies, and connected communities are continually improving and evolving, the State of Wyoming is poised to meet demands for access to geographic information by governmental, private business, and public users of GIS.
The Wyoming GIS Advisory Board seeks to establish high-level goals and objectives to meet data, analysis, and access needs pertaining to effective GIS implementation for an advancing technology landscape in Wyoming.
Authority
The GIS Advisory Board is established pursuant to the requirement for ETS to implement and maintain an IT governance program as specified in W.S. 9-2-2906(b)(ii). Furthermore, ETS is mandated to enhance GIS coordination among all governmental users of GIS as specified in W.S. 9-2-2906(b)(x).
Purpose
The GIS Advisory Board shall support standardized access to, and format of critical geospatial information and encourage collaborative partnerships among state agencies and with other sectors of the GIS community. The GIS Advisory Board shall submit recommendations to the CIO on appropriate matters including:
Specific baseline GIS datasets to be maintained by state agencies
State agency stewardship for a baseline GIS dataset
Public/private partnerships that facilitate data development and access
Content and access protocols for a statewide clearinghouse
Minimum data standards for baseline GIS datasets
Requests for funding to support baseline data collection
Advice on state agency Geospatial policies
Membership
The membership of the GIS Advisory Board shall be by Governor’s appointment and consist of the following:
Five (5) state agency directors
One (1) geospatial community member
One (1) representative of the Wyoming County Assessor Association
One (1) representative of the GIS Technical Advisory Group
One (1) representative of the elected officials
The Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WYGISC) Director and CIO shall be ex-officio members.
Membership Terms
Membership terms are staggered. All newly appointed members shall serve two (2) year terms. A member may serve no more than three (3) consecutive terms.
